Research Grants
In 2010, the University of Maine Foster Center for Student Innovation and Innovation Engineering academic program were awarded a 3-year grant from the University of Maine System Strategic Investment Fund (SIF). The funded proposal is titled "Innovation Education Throughout the University of Maine System." We are now in the second year of the grant period, and we are continuing to make innovation education available throughout the University of Maine System by collaborating with faculty at all campuses to deliver courses in Innovation Engineering, our curriculum that gives students the tools and confidence to lead innovation in organizations.
This work is part of a larger strategy that the University of Maine is pursuing to make Maine businesses and organizations more entrepreneurial and globally competitive through innovation. By pursuing this strategy, we aim to help students create their own futures in our state through entrepreneurship, and to create opportunities for employment in Maine by helping Maine businesses grow.
Research Awards
Money from the SIF budget is earmarked for research awards to encourage collaborative research projects in topics related to Innovation Engineering. This effort will not only bring faculty across the System together, but also will strengthen the University of Maine System's leadership role in innovation curriculum and research. Most importantly, it will enhance the curriculum and student learning opportunities.
For summer 2012 we will be able to fund four proposals, up to $7500 each.
